Discography
This is useful in identifying damaged discs in the spine. This in addition to MRI becomes a more valuable indicator of a damaged disc. Sometimes, an MRI alone will portray disc damage as a bulge. Although a bulge is typically considered relatively harmless, there are “bulge-like” images that can appear in an MRI which cause strong pain symptoms. This is due to annulus ruptures, which have not gone beyond a bulge-like appearance, similar to a hairline fracture of the disc. Identification by discography is important for diagnosis and treatment of this condition.
