FACETAL INJECTION

The presence of back pain is not always caused by damage to the spinal discs. There are other structures in the spine that cause significant pain. One of such structures is the facet joints of the spine. These joints assist the spine with its flexibility. Sometimes, the facet joints get  subluxed (gets out of place), gets inflamed or pinches a nerve adjacent to the joint. Initially, this is treated by anti-inflammatory medications and chiropractic or physical therapy.

If this does not bring relief the a Facet Joint Injection performed under Fluoroscopic guidance is beneficial to the patient. Dr. Shan Nagendra's Penn Medical Services is equipped to handle this procedure. It is done in such a way as to be most comfortable for a patient who is anxious and apprehensive.

There are times, where Facet Joint ailments become chronic. When they do, the next step is the use of a RFL (Radiofrequency Leisoning Procedure).  In RFL, a specialized apparatus is used to block nerve conduction on a semi-permanent basis. This procedure offers a higher degree of pain relief and is available at Penn Medical Services.
